PHILADELPHIA — When it comes to the Mets’ rotation, five is enough.
After toying with the idea of continuing with six starting pitchers, a byproduct of the recent doubleheader, Mickey Callaway will send rookie Corey Oswalt to the bullpen, the manager said following the Mets’ 3-1 victory over the Phillies on Saturday.
Jason Vargas, who is scheduled to start Sunday night’s Little League Classic in Williamsport, Pa., for the Mets, will remain the fifth starter, behind Jacob deGrom, Noah Syndergaard, Steven Matz and Zack Wheeler.
In recent days, Callaway had noted the challenge of trying to keep Oswalt in the rotation without disrupting deGrom and Syndergaard, in particular.
