The Mets have definitely seen better seasons. And the Mets broadcasters decided that amid Tuesday night’s eventual 25-4 loss to the Nationals, it was a good time to relive those better seasons.
The SNY booth as rain began to fall, broadcasters Keith Hernandez, Ron Darling and Gary Cohen resorted to their favorite boring-game habit: Reading from the Mets’ media guide, as Washington was crushing the Mets 19-1 in the top of the eighth inning.
In an attempt to lighten the broadcast, the three commentators passed around the guide and shared stories from the 1969 World Series — when the Mets won the World Series and posted a 100-62 record after having not won more than 73 games in a season since joining the National League in 1962.
