The Mets made a major step in shoring up their bullpen Tuesday. They reached an agreement on a one-year deal with lefty Jerry Blevins, believed to be worth $5 million including incentives.
They had traded for the 32-year old veteran from the Nationals last spring training, but he only saw action in seven games before he was placed on the disabled list with a fractured forearm.
Blevins gives the Mets a much-needed lefty-specialist in the bullpen. Last season the Mets used Sean Gilmartin, Alex Torres and Jack Leathersich in that role, before turning to starter Jon Niese in the playoffs.
