Jeurys Familia has agreed to a one-year deal with the New York Mets, worth $4.1 million, avoiding arbitration.
Familia was the last arbitration-eligible player on the roster before the agreement. Earlier this Winter, it was reported that the 26-year-old closer requested $4.8 million with the Mets countering with a $3.3 million proposal.
The new deal makes Familia the “highest paid closer with only one full season of closing” according to Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal.
Last season, Familia was thrusted into the closer role after former closer Jenrry Mejia went down with an elbow injury on the very first game of the 2015 season.
