The Mets have made their first major pitching addition of the offseason, signing RHP Frankie Montas to a 2-year, $34M contract. The contract has an opt-out after the 2025 season, making it a close facsimile of Sean Manaea’s contract from last offseason.
Montas, 31, has bounced around in his major league career. He was originally signed by the Red Sox in 2009 as an IFA out of the Dominican Republic, then was traded to the White Sox in 2013 as part of a three-team deal w/ the Tigers (involving Jake Peavy, Jose Iglesias, and Avisail Garcia).
