The Mets have signed recent fifth-round (140th overall) draft pick Ryley Gilliam, a right-handed reliever who could rocket through the system and get to New York "very quickly," according to MLB.com's Jim Callis.
The 21-year-old Gilliam, who features a high-octane fastball and hammer curve, signed for $550,000 -- over the slot value of $379,400.
Gilliam, who was ranked as MLB.com's 127th-best Draft prospect, had a 1.41 ERA while striking out 54 batters in 38.1 innings (27 appearances) for Clemson this season.
