Lucas Duda, who had been rehabbing his back injury in Florida, has been shut down for 30 days, GM Sandy Alderson said on Wednesday.
According to Alderson, while Duda’s season could be over, Dr. Robert Watkins does not believe he’ll need surgery on his back.
Alderson had initially said on June 28 that Duda was expected to resume baseball activity in mid-July, but he hadn’t done so until recently.
Before then, Duda had been doing strengthening exercises and riding a stationary bike.
He was hitting .231/.297/.431 with seven home runs and 19 RBI in 39 games before his injury.
