PHILADELPHIA — The verdict arrived Monday on the charge Jacob deGrom was tipping his pitches in his start the previous night.
“Absolutely, 100 percent not tipping,” Mets’ pitching coach Dave Eiland said.
As deGrom was slogging Sunday through a second straight rough start, ESPN analyst Alex Rodriguez suggested the right-hander was tipping his pitches, allowing the Braves to lay off his best stuff and pounce at other times.
DeGrom threw 114 pitches over only five innings and allowed three runs. Eiland indicated deGrom’s problems were mechanical.
“If he leaves the rubber a little bit too soon, his arm never catches up,” Eiland said before the Mets won 7-6 in 11 innings over the Phillies on Monday night.
