In the Major League portion of the Rule 5 draft, the Mets selected Justin Slaten from the Texas Rangers. Shortly after the draft, Slaten was traded to the Boston Red Sox for cash and left-handed pitching prospect Ryan Ammons. Justin Slaten, we hardly knew ye.
Ammons, who had a successful collegiate career at Clemson, was drafted earlier this year in the tenth round by the Red Sox. He began his senior year as a starter, but after suffering a forearm strain, he returned as a reliever. Whether or not that role will continue forward is anyone’s guess.
