Zack Wheeler’s trade value to the Mets may never be higher.
Your move, Mets.
In desperate need of younger and more athletic pieces, in a thin market for starting pitchers, the Mets were “50-50” earlier this week on whether they would deal Wheeler heading toward July 31. Saturday’s performance was further evidence the right-hander can help a contender – one which presumably wouldn’t need him to pitch eight innings.
Wheeler buckled in the eighth, but that hardly undermined his first seven innings in the Mets’ 7-4 victory over the Nationals at Citi Field.
