Mets scouting director compares Jarred Kelenic to Brandon Nimmo

Seven years after last drafting a high school outfielder in the first round, the Mets went for a prep outfielder with the No. 6 pick in Monday night's MLB Draft.

Seven years ago, it was Brandon Nimmo, from Wyoming.

Shortly after the Mets tabbed Kelenic, director of amateur scouting Tommy Tanous discussed the similarities between the two players.

"I would say the main characteristic they both hold is they control the strike zone extremely well," Tanous said. "They know the zone. They know which pitches they're looking to hit. They, more importantly, know what pitches to take.
