The Mets gave recently-retired outfielder Michael Cuddyer a buyout worth between $2 million and $3 million, according to Mike Puma of the New York Post.
The 36-year-old Cuddyer, who was due to earn $12.5 million this season, announced his retirement in December.
Cuddyer, who had signed a two-year deal prior to 2015, hit .259/.309/.391 in 117 games last season for the Mets while dealing with multiple injuries.
Mets GM Sandy Alderson told Puma that the Mets still would’ve been able to sign OF Yoenis Cespedes had they not saved money from Cuddyer’s retirement, but said some of their other offseason moves might not have come to fruition.
