Matt Reynolds never made his major league debut during the 2015 season, but could get the rare opportunity to have it occur in the playoffs.
The rookie infielder was on his way to New York on Sunday and is expected to be placed on the NLDS roster before Game 3 as Ruben Tejada’s replacement.
Tejada sustained a broken right leg Saturday night on Chase Utley’s late takeout slide at second base, leaving Wilmer Flores as the starter at shortstop, but the Mets were without a backup option.
“We just thought it was going to be important if Matt’s going to be the guy, we are protected at shortstop with a guy who has played a lot at shortstop,” manager Terry Collins said.
