I’m an admitted mark for New York Mets pitcher Robert Gsellman. I was at the 2018 game when he picked up his first career save against the Arizona Diamondbacks. At the time, I hoped I was witnessing what was the first of many saves to come.
I doubt this is the direction Gsellman goes. While I do believe he has the toughness to work as a closer, he doesn’t have the “stuff” to strikeout batters nearly enough. Things could change. In the meantime, Gsellman can serve the Mets best as a multi-inning threat.
Gsellman was impressive in his first year with the Mets during the 2016 season.
