The Mets demoted third base coach Tim Teufel on Tuesday, replacing the former ’86 infielder after his performance this past season was littered with subpar baserunning decisions.
Glenn Sherlock will be the Mets’ new third base coach and catching instructor. Sherlock had served as the Diamondbacks bench coach each of the last two seasons and was the team’s catching coach across 14 other seasons since 1998. He also had two seasons worth of experience coaching third with Arizona.
The Mets have offered Teufel the chance to remain within the organization in a different position. It marks the second former 1986 Mets second baseman to be either dismissed or demoted recently, following Wally Backman’s ouster as Triple-A manager in September.
