PITTSBURGH — The Mets’ season became a bust before August. But Anthony Swarzak still has time to avoid the label.
Since last weekend’s trade of closer Jeurys Famila, Swarzak has finally begun to resemble the reliever signed to a two-year, $14 million deal in the offseason, pitching 3 ¹/u2083 scoreless innings and picking up two saves, including a perfect frame in Sunday’s 1-0 win over the Pirates at PNC Park.
Swarzak, who pitched two scoreless innings to earn a save Wednesday against the Padres, opened his latest opportunity by striking out cleanup hitter Colin Moran, then earned a single-season career-high third save with a strikeout of Elias Diaz.
