The Mets announced Wednesday that they had released Sam Haggerty, a minor league infielder who had been designated for assignment in December to make space for the newly signed Dellin Betances on the 40 man roster.
Haggerty’s tenure with the Mets was short-lived. Acquired in the 2018-19 offseason from the Cleveland Indians along with right-handed pitcher Walker Lockett in a trade for catcher Kevin Plawecki, the 25 year old speedster put up a .763 OPS across three minor league levels while playing mostly second base as well as some centerfield.
