The Mets have released left-handed pitcher Mike Montgomery, a 31-year-old who they signed back in mid-February. His deal with the team had an opt-out that necessitated a decision from the team today, and clearly the Mets intend to go in another direction with their Opening Day roster.
Montgomery threw just 5.1 innings for the Royals last year, but he had a 4.95 ERA and 5.52 FIP in 91.0 innings of work with the Cubs and Royals in 2019. Over the course of his career, Montgomery has a 3.84 ERA and 4.34 FIP in 183 appearances, 70 of which have been starts.
