Mets release Buddy Carlyle, re-assign four players to minor league camp

The Mets have released right-handed reliever Buddy Carlyle, reports Adam Rubin of ESPN.

Carlyle, 38, told Rubin he hadn’t decided whether he’ll retire or keep pitching.

Carlyle pitched just eight innings for the Mets last season before his season ended in July due to hip surgery.

He posted a 1.45 ERA and 0.90 WHIP in 31 innings for the Mets in 2011, during what was his first big league action since 2014.

Carlyle has struggled during Spring Training and had no chance to make the 25-man roster, so this move doesn’t come as a surprise.
