Just before their series opener against the Cubs this evening at Citi Field, the Mets recalled right-handed pitcher Sean Reid-Foley and designated fellow right-handed pitcher Jacob Barnes for assignment. The latter was out of options and therefore had to be DFA’d to be removed from the active roster.
Both pitchers were acquired by the Mets over the offseason, as the team claimed Barnes on waivers and got Reid-Foley in the trade that sent Steven Matz to the Blue Jays. Through the first couple months of the season, they’ve pitched to very different results.
