The Mets have played Dominic Smith on the injured list with a stress reaction in his left foot. Aaron Altherr was called up from Triple-A Syracuse to take Smith’s place on the 25-man roster.
Smith, 24, is slashing .278/.352/.506 in 196 plate appearances this season with 10 homers, 10 doubles and 22 RBIs.
While Smith has had a good year offensively, he’d been slumping recently with a .167 average and .182 on-base percentage over his past 17 appearances. The natural first baseman also has had issues defensively in left field.
