Mets push Steven Matz' start back due to blister

Mets LHP Steven Matz will be pushed back from Thursday to Saturday due to a blister on his left middle finger, reports Kristie Ackert of the NY Daily News.

The Mets announced late Wednesday night that Jason Vargas -- who was supposed to be skipped this turn through the rotation -- will pitch Thursday night against the Diamondbacks in Arizona, followed by Seth Lugo on Friday. Zack Wheeler will pitch on Sunday.

Matz had recently been dealing with a slight strain of his middle finger.

The strained finger forced Matz to exit his start on May 29 after just 3.
