The Mets have placed catcher Travis d’Arnaud on the disabled list with a partial tear of his right UCL and recalled catcher Tomás Nido from Double-A Binghamton. d’Arnaud, who was hitting just .200/.250/.400 in four games this season, will be reevaluated in the coming days, and a decision will be made on whether or not he will undergo surgery to repair the damaged ligament.
In the four games he played this season, d’Arnaud had difficulty making throws when trying to get opposing baserunners out. This injury is a possible explanation for why these throws were so late, and sometimes, off target.
