Mets place Nido on IL, call up Mazeika, option Reid-Foley

The Mets have placed Tomás Nido on the 10-day injured list with a left thumb sprain, recalled fellow catcher Patrick Mazeika from Triple-A Syracuse to take his place on the roster, and optioned pitcher Sean Reid-Foley to Triple-A. The Reid-Foley move comes following yesterday’s activation of Noah Syndergaard from the 60-day injured list, as he technically served as the Mets’ 29th man for their doubleheader.

Nido has been on and off the injured list several times in recent weeks, and his season is now over. In 161 plate appearances, he hit just .222/.261/.327 with a 63 wRC+, serving as the backup to James McCann, whose performance at the plate was also underwhelming.
