Before their game in Pittsburgh this evening, the Mets placed Francisco Lindor on the injured list with an oblique strain. And shortly after that, they said that Jacob deGrom is dealing with forearm tightness.
Simply put, Lindor is the Mets’ best position player, and deGrom is clearly their best pitcher—and the best pitcher in baseball. And the Mets’ hopes of winning the National League East are very much dependent on having both of those players on the field on a regular basis.
In the meantime, the Mets called up Travis Blankenhorn to take Lindor’s spot on the active roster.
