In between games of their doubleheader with the Nationals yesterday, the Mets activated Albert Almora Jr. from the injured list and placed Joey Lucchesi on the injured list with left elbow inflammation. The move came as a bit of a surprise, as there hadn’t been any talk of Lucchesi potentially being hurt leading up to the announcement by the team.
The night before, Lucchesi threw five-and-one-third scoreless innings against the Nationals, his fifth-straight good outing. Over those five starts, Lucchesi had a 1.19 ERA with 24 strikeouts and 6 walks in 22.2 innings, a massive improvement over his work earlier in the season.
