Ahead of their second game in Los Angeles, the Mets have placed catcher James McCann and pitcher Jake Reed on the injured list and recalled pitchers Geoff Hartlieb and Yennsy Diaz to take their places on the team’s active roster.
Just yesterday, the Mets had said they were optimistic that McCann wouldn’t have to hit the injured list, but it’s far from surprising to see that optimism turned out to be incorrect. Signed to a four-year, $40 million contract before the season started, the 31-year-old McCann has hit just .240/.303/.357 with nine home runs and an 84 wRC+.
