The New York Mets on Thursday placed infielder Mark Vientos on the 10-day injured list because of left wrist tendinitis.
The move, retroactive to Wednesday, is not expected to keep Vientos out of action for more than eight games. Going on the IL allows him to heal and the team to add another player to the roster -- in this case, outfielder Abraham Almonte, who was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse.
"We're hoping that he's a player at the end of it," Mets manager Buck Showalter said of Vientos. "But just to be on the safe side and get it completely cleared up.
