Mets place INF Daniel Murphy on DL with quad strain (The Associated Press)

PHOENIX (AP) -- The New York Mets have placed infielder Daniel Murphy on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left quadriceps, the latest major blow to their banged-up lineup.

The team recalled infielder Danny Muno from Triple-A Las Vegas on Friday to fill the roster spot.

Murphy had just been shifted from second base to third to fill in for captain David Wright, sidelined indefinitely with spinal stenosis. New York, which began the day atop the NL East, also is missing catcher Travis d'Arnaud (broken pinkie) and second-string second baseman Dilson Herrera (broken finger).
