Zack Wheeler finally has a tentative date for his return to the Mets.
The right-hander is scheduled to pitch Friday against the Pirates at Citi Field, according to industry sources, in his return from a shoulder impingement that placed him on the injured list last week.
Wheeler threw a bullpen session Sunday in San Francisco and will likely face hitters in live batting practice before Tuesday’s game against the Padres. He last started July 7 against the Phillies, when he allowed six runs over five innings.
With a Friday return, Wheeler would provide scouts one opportunity to watch him pitch before the July 31 trade deadline.
