NEW YORK -- The Mets added a bit of outfield depth to their organization on Wednesday, signing Zach Borenstein to a Minor League contract with an invitation to big league Spring Training.
Borenstein, 27, has never appeared in the Majors, but was the Angels' 2013 Minor League Player of the Year and the Class A California League co-MVP that same season. Last year, he hit .279 with 27 doubles, seven triples, 24 home runs, 91 RBIs and a .351 on-base percentage in 122 games for Arizona's Triple-A affiliate Reno affiliate. He also went 5-for-25 with three doubles and two RBIs in six games for Team Israel in the World Baseball Classic.
