Before their game began this evening, New York Mets optioned Paul Sewald to Triple-A Las Vegas and recalled Drew Gagnon.
Sewald had a nice start to the season, but since the beginning of June, he has been unable to keep his ERA under 4.40. He currently sits at 0-4 with a 5.05 ERA and 1.29 WHIP over 41.0 innings. He was sent down to Las Vegas on June 22 and just called back up on July 6, and he’s thrown two innings and given up two earned runs since.
The 28-year-old Gagnon has been in the minors since 2011, when he was drafted in the third round by the Milwaukee Brewers.
