The Mets have optioned right-handed pitcher Jordan Yamamoto to Triple-A Syracuse, and they’ve reassigned fellow right-handed pitcher Corey Oswalt, catcher Bruce Maxwell, and infielder Brandon Drury. With that, it seems pretty clear that the Mets have decided upon their rotation for the start of the 2021 season.
With Carlos Carrasco and Noah Syndergaard both set to begin the year on the injured list, Yamamoto was a contender for one of two rotation spots behind Jacob deGrom, Marcus Stroman, and Taijuan Walker. David Peterson always seemed to have a leg up on the competition in that battle since he pitched well for the Mets in his first season in the big leagues in 2020, and now he and Joey Lucchesi figure to fill those two spots in the rotation to start the season.
