On Wednesday night in Cincinnati, the Mets couldn’t have come back to win without Adonis Medina, but for at least a brief period of time, they will be without him, as the team optioned Medina to Triple-A Syracuse and called up fellow right-handed pitcher Jake Reed ahead of their series opener against the Marlins in Queens tonight.
Following a short start by David Peterson, who had just returned from paternity leave after his wife gave birth to their first child, Medina threw three scoreless innings with four strikeouts, one walk, and just one hit allowed. That kept the Mets, who were down one, in the game, and the team capitalized by tying the game in the ninth and pouring on five runs in the tenth to win the series finale.
