The Mets scored plenty of runs, Sean Manaea had another good outing, and the team won its series opener against the Diamondbacks by an 8-3 score.
Pete Alonso opened the scoring with a solo home run in the top of the second, and the Mets plated their second run on a fielder’s choice ground out off the bat off Jeff McNeil. But that inning was just the opening act for a fifth inning that saw the Mets put the game out of reach.
In total, the Mets scored six in that inning. Francisco Alvarez and Mark Vientos each singled in a run.
