The trade rumors still surround Zack Wheeler, and his days wearing the orange and blue could be limited. But he has also looked like a solid player the Mets could hang on to recently and the 6-3 win over the Padres was no exception.
Perhaps it helped that the Mets’ offense jumped on San Diego starter Eric Lauer early. The Mets loaded the bases with two-out to bring up Devin Mesoraco. Mesoraco had a terrible day at the plate in the series opener, but he redeemed himself when he hit a bases-clearing double to give the Mets an early 3-0 lead.
