Mets OF Yoenis Cespedes hits in sim game, may not need rehab games

Mets OF Yoenis Cespedes hit against teammate Noah Syndergaard during a simulated game on Tuesday at Citi Field.

Cespedes, who is scheduled to run and do fielding drills on Wednesday, may not need a rehab assignment before returning, Mets manager Mickey Callaway recently said.

The 32-year-old Cespedes has been on the disabled list since May 14 due to a strained right hip flexor.

He started running last week at Miller Park in Milwaukee in the latest step of his recovery.

Cespedes is hitting .255/.316/.474 with eight HR in 37 games this season.
