Maybe there will be Cespedes for the rest of us in 2016 after all. The Mets confirmed that they have worked out a deal with Yoenis Cespedes that will allow them to try to re-sign him as a free agent, according to the team.
"The amendment to Yoenis' contract provides us the opportunity to negotiate with the player's agent during the entire unrestricted free agent period," the team said in a statement.
Cespedes had a clause in his contract that required he be released at the end of the season to become a free agent. Under his original contract, the Mets would have had five days after the World Series to negotiate with the slugger.
