PHOENIX — Once the scrap heap, now the scrap attack for the Mets.
Adeiny Hechavarria and Carlos Gomez were almost nobody’s idea of important additions by general manager Brodie Van Wagenen, but both veterans, signed to minor-league contracts in spring training, have been instrumental in the team’s improved recent play.
Both contributed to an eighth-inning rally Friday night that allowed the Mets to snap a two-game skid with a 5-4 victory over the Diamondbacks at Chase Field.
