On June 10th, 2003 Jose Reyes made his major league debut for the New York Mets against the Texas Rangers. In his debut, he collected two hits and scored twice. This was also the day before his 20th birthday.
He became the first teenager to play for the Mets since Greg Jeffries in 1987 and was the first teenager to start for the Mets since Dwight Gooden did so in 1984.
About a year and a month later David Wright made his major league debut for the Mets on July 21st, 2004 against the Montreal Expos. Wright collected his first career hit the following day on Zack Day.
