A day after Terry Collins said he was not close to naming a bench coach, the Mets did exactly that. Dick Scott, who had replaced Collins as the Mets field coordinator in 2011, will take over the job left vacant by Bob Geren last month.
Geren bolted for the same job on new Dodgers' manager Dave Roberts' staff last month, citing the chance to return to his Southern California roots and family. While seen as opposites, Collins said that he and Geren worked well together, saying he was a bench coach who always came up with ideas and made the manager think through all possibilities.
