The Mets brought back Jesse Winker on a one-year deal.
The Mets offered Pete Alonso a three-year deal in the $68-70 million range, which included opt-outs, but Alonso rejected the deal. With that, the team is said to be pivoting away from bringing back the slugger.
If the Mets are indeed done with Alonso, they could invest more heavily in their bullpen.
Andy Martino says that the Mets think Alonso is destined to play elsewhere.
The Mets told Starling Marte that they’d try to trade him but haven’t found a match thus far.
