The Mets once again got off to an early lead, this time off Nationals’ rookie starter Austin Voth. They scored three runs in the first inning and their scoring was capped off by a Michael Conforto three run homer in the fifth inning to give the Mets a 7-0 lead. Meanwhile, Zack Wheeler was brilliant for 7 2⁄3 innings and bent, but did not break in the eighth inning, as the bullpen held firm and the Mets went on to a 7-4 victory.
