The Mets lost their first game in their new City Connect jerseys, falling to the Cardinals 7-4. Adrian Houser had a terrible outing that put the Mets in an early hole, but the Mets scratched back to within two runs as a strong performance from the bullpen kept them in the game. That rally included a milestone for Pete Alonso—the 200th home run of his career, making him the fourth Met to ever accomplish that feat and the fourth-fastest player in baseball history to 200 home runs. But the Cardinals added an insurance run late and the Mets were unable to mount a late-inning comeback.
