Mets Morning News: Pete Alonso honors those lost on 9/11, Mets power their way to victory over Arizona

The Mets scored five runs off Robbie Ray chasing him in the first inning and never looked back. Jeff McNeil and Todd Frazier both blasted a pair of home runs to lead the rout of the Diamondbacks. When the offense was done for the night they had scored 9 runs on 11 hits. Steven Matz looked a bit shaky in the second but settled in and pitched six scoreless. The bullpen relieved him and was able to keep Arizona off the board to ensure the series victory.

September 11 will forever remain a sad day in New York and around the country, but the Mets continue to remember and honor the first responders who lost their lives on that horrible day.
