The Mets played a standalone game in DC and were beaten 8-4 by the Washington Nationals. Things got off to an inauspicious start as Jerad Eickhoff surrendered home runs to Kyle Schwarber and Trea Turner to lead off the game. Schwarber hit another one later in the contest, and Gerardo Parra added a solo shot as Washington built a five-run lead. The Mets scratched out a run in the seventh and used back-to-back dingers from Pete Alonso and Billy McKinney in the eighth to draw to within a run, but a Ryan Zimmerman’s three-run homer in the bottom half of that frame dashed any dreams of a comeback.
