The Mets took the first game of the Subway Series on Tuesday night, defeating the Yankees 9-7. It was a slugfest for the Mets, who were powered by the long ball, led by Mark Vientos and his hot bat. Vientos hit two more homers on Tuesday night, both coming off Gerrit Cole. Harrison Bader added a homer off his former teammate as well, and Brandon Nimmo got in on the fun with a homer of his own. The Mets appeared to break the game open in the sixth and seventh inning, leading 9-1. But then the Mets’ bullpen struggled mightily and Aaron Judge hit a grand slam in the top of the eighth to make it 9-7.
