Jacob deGrom tried his best, but the Mets’ bullpen and bats failed them again in a frustrating loss that nearly ended in a brawl. When deGrom left after the sixth inning with the Mets trailing 2-1, things were at least close. Robert Gsellman kept them there until Drew Gagnon came in for the eighth and promptly surrendered two home runs in a span of three at-bats. With the Mets trailing 5-1, Gagnon then promptly hit Ian Desmond square in the back causing the benches and bullpens to empty.
