The Mets began the second half of the season very similarly to how they ended it: by making the Pirates look like a much better team than they actually are. Once again the offense struggled, and once again the pitching staff suffered a death by a thousand hits against the Pittsburgh offense, and Amazins suffered a 4-1 loss.
As if the loss last night wasn’t painful enough, Francisco Lindor also had to leave the game early due to “right side soreness” he experienced after a swing.
There were also some fireworks during the game, as tensions flared between starting pitcher Marcus Stroman and Pirates first baseman John Nogowski in an incident that made the benches clear.
