The Mets beat the White Sox 5-2 last night in Chicago to gain some ground in the NL Wild Card race. Pete Alonso and Jesse Winker hit back-to-back home runs in the first inning to help the Mets get out to an early three-run lead. José Quintana earned his seventh victory of the season, giving up two runs—one of them earned—over five innings of work, striking out six batters and walking three. Huascar Brazobán, Ryne Stanek, and Phil Maton each contributed a scoreless inning in relief and despite a shaky ninth, José Buttó earned his third save of the season to seal the victory.
